Research Group Kristina Giesel

The research group is part of the Institute for Theoretical Physics III (Quantum Gravity) and the Erlangen Center for Astroparticle Physics (ECAP) at the Department of Physics at the FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg. The research in the group focuses on topics in quantum gravity including the formulation of the Quantum Einstein Equations in Loop Quantum Gravity and application of the dynamics to cosmology and black holes. Furthermore we study open quantum systems including gravity and investigate gravitationally induced decoherence.

Research Activities

The research in the group covers topics in the dynamics of Loop Quantum Gravity encoded in the Quantum Einstein Equations with applications in the context of quantum cosmology and the quantum gravitational collapse as well as open quantum systems involving gravity. We investigate foundational questions such as the role of physical (quantum) reference frames in quantum gravity as well formulate models and investigate their physical implications.
